What are the benefits for technicians?

  • By taking and passing tough, national competency exams, technicians have the pride of knowing that they are among the elite in their profession.
  • They earn credentials to prove their competence to others -- co-workers, employers, and customers.
  • Certified technicians can expect increased respect from peers and employers.
  • Additionally many ASE-certified technicians report added responsibilities, selection for advanced training, improved job opportunities, and salary increases.
  • ASE testing can be used to gauge the effectiveness of the training classes and courses.

Once certified, service professionals receive an ASE shoulder insignia or pin, a wallet ID card, and a certificate suitable for framing, as well as regular mailings of the ASE Tech/News newsletter.

What are the benefits for employers?

  • Employers have long found value in the ASE program.  ASE voluntary certification helps busy managers and training directors:
  • Evaluate potential new hires.
  • Analyze job performance.
  • Develop in-house recognition and motivation programs.
  • Select outside vendors for work that's jobbed out.
  • Demonstrate their shop's professionalism to customers.

In addition, many employers point to ASE-certified technicians being more accurate and productive in their work and having higher overall performance ratings than their non-certified counterparts.

Who may take the certification test?

People may take most of the regular tests as long as they are registered and have paid the proper fees.  Participants will be certified if they pass one or more tests and satisfy the hands-on work experience requirement.  Refer to the website refered above for more detailed information about testing requirements.
